A peaceful start

On my way to work I had to stop and take some pictures. The last 200 meters or so runs along a large lake and some railways. It was so peaceful and pretty. Early morning. Just me and some early birds..

Flea marked finds

It's spring! (Yep, I'm not going to recognize the fact that there was a snow blister two days ago)
One of my favorite things about spring is that I can go to flea markets. I have lived in my apartment for about a year now, and there are still a few things that are missing, and a few things I would like to replace. Ane and I went to two different markets. I didn't find what I was looking for, but found some great finds. I have to admit: I have a thing for chairs. And this have to bee the coolest yet:

I love it! There were two chairs like this one that were sold on the auction. I bought this one for 200 kroner. I thought at first that was somewhat expensive, but then the next chair went for 550 kr! I don't know what I like the most, the cool chair, or that fact that I feel I did a bargain!

Other than the chair I bought a rolling pin, several glass bottles and a vase. And a lamp, but I'll give the lamp a coat of paint before I show it. Over all: a great day. And if you are the one that have that midcentury coffee table I'm looking everywere for: let me know!

Seraphin rocks my day

I recently rediscovered one of my favorite books as a child. It's called "Le merveilleux chef d'oeuvre de Seraphin" or "Serafin og hans makeløse mesterverk" in Norwegian. It's written by Philippe Fix, and I have spent countless hours studying the details in the illustrations as a kid. Looking at the pictures today takes me back instantly to my childhood, and I can see how it has inspired my imagination and my creativity. Today I found that there is actually two more books in this series, so of course I have to order them.

Here's a few glimpses from the book. I highly recommend this, either for kids, or for grown up kids such as my self..

Pre weekend

Thursday. What a wonderful day. It's only one more day of work before the weekend sets in. This Saturday I'm off work, and I'll do my best to fill the day with all the things I love to do.. and probably put off all the things I should be doing.. Last Saturday I did work, and here's what that looks like at times

Three of our fantastic studio assistants. Just say the word and they will be on their feet, running and lifting really heavy things really fast. Looks like they're sitting on a gold mine on this pic..

Memories..

I am visiting my parents right now. They have a large, very messy and very fantastic attic. I grew up in that house, and I am very happy that we never moved. I dicovered some old wallpaper leftovers there. The mossy green with the white roses used to be on my bedroom wall from when I was about 4 and upto 11 years old. It bringes back so many memories to look at it!

I remember that I used to believe that there was a huge wolf with horns, standing on it's hind legs behind the matching dark green curtains in my room. I used to have nightmares about it all the time. When I was about 6 I drew a picture of him in my sketch book. After that I was terrified of seeing that drawing again when I was looking through the sketch book.. hehe.

The other wallpaper is the one from my dad's office. It's still there! Along with the type writer (!). At some point I'll have to take a picture of that room. It's like a great evidence of long lost times with bright yellow, weired hair does (and dont's!), great flared leg jeans and perspirant!

I love my childhood home..

Flower Power

Can one have to many vintage enamel flower rings?

I don't think so. But trying to wear them all at once may not be the best idea. We'll be adding new rings and other items to the shop every day, so be sure to stop by!

Commercial break

Last week Sigrid and I worked on a commercial film for the Norwegian lottery.
We did the set design, and this is how it looked like:

Sigrid was watching the monitor closely..

If you live in Norway, you'll soon see this livingroom during the commercial breaks. And if you're wondering who's steering the bird inside the coo coo clock.. well.. e-hem. It's me!

A springy look

I took some more photos this morning, having the day off. This necklace is currently one of my favorites. I love the big polkadotted bead, and the rich, brown color on the bead caps compliments the brown dotts on the bead in a perfect way..

Business card

Task of the day: make more business cards..

Oh.. and my boyfriend picked out the colors on the paper (...!). He actually uttered the words "hm, I think this color will look good with the gold color on the stamp.." (...!!) But he should know. He's a colorist. They look great though?

Klunk on the dunk

Yesterday I went where all Norwegian citizens go when they want to buy their wine, liquor, or strong beer. The “winemonopoly” (which sounds a bit like a family board game) was established here in Norway in 1922, since the citizens were drinking too much and too strong. There was little wine, more spirits, and about 1830-1840 the average adult was pouring down 13 liters or 3.4 gallons of pure alcohol every year. The Winemonoploy now hold the exclusive right to retail wine, spirits and strong beer in Norway.

Buying your wine here takes a little bit of planning. The Winemonopoly closes earlier than other shops, it closes at 4 or 6 on Saturdays, and it’s closed on Sundays.

The age limit for buying wine and beer with less than 22% alcohol is 18 years of age. For the stronger stuff you need to be at least 20 years.

I am now getting to the core of this presentation. Yesterday, when I was buying my wine the lady in the cashier asked me for ID! Really! This year I will be celebrating my 30th birthday, and the nice lady wanted to know if I had turned 18 yet. A little flattered and overwhelmed I handed her my ID, she looked at it and handed it back to me saying “thank you!”. I replied “No, thank YOU!”. There was a little giggling in the line behind me.

Later on I was contemplating what had happened and why the nice lady suspected that I was under the age of 18. Do I really look that young?? Was it my sloppy clothes? Did I behave like a teenager? What?

I think I found the answer. I bought a carton of Gato Negro. I made a decision while looking at two different types of wine. I thought “why spend 400 kroners when I can spend only 300?” No offence to the brewers of Gato Negro, it’s a nice wine that works with almost anything. The nice cashier probably made the conclusion “Okay, here we have someone who buyes large quantities of cheep brewery, she must be underage!”

(The phrase “Klunk on the dunk” means when your wine carton is almost empty, but you assume you’ll be able to squeeze another two glasses out of it. “Klunk” is the sound of wine being poured into a glass. “Dunk” is carton. “Å klunke på dunken”; To split the leftovers on your wine carton with a friend. Large quantitiesare not important in this context.)
