Stylophone

When I was about ten years old I quit playing the violin. For some very strange reason my violin teacher had high expectations on my behalf. She really didn't have any reasons to get her hopes up high. Me and my sister had just got our very first horse, and sitting inside rehearsing was not my main priority. So I quit. Since then I have sung in many different choirs, but I never found and instrument that I enjoyed playing. Or even rehearsing. So instead of ever learning to play anything well, I compensate by playing strange instruments, that no one really knows of, really bad. Since no one else plays these instruments I feel that it doesn't matter that I play kind of awful.

A couple of weeks ago me and Ane went to London, and this resulted in my latest addition to my small (but highly appreciated) collection of strange instruments. Meet Stylophone

It fantastic. The sound is really annoying. But it's fantastic. You play by using the little stick and pushing it on the notes. The sound is kind of hard and electric. And most of all annoying. When I find out how to record from it I'll let you experience it in all it's glory. Ane's sister played a legendary version of "Anthem". I haven't decided what's going to be my big performance yet, but I'll start rehearsing (yeah right) and let you hear later. Because it's really great. I think it's the best 8£ I ever spent!

Is it any wonder?

-Toooom Bergerooooon!

I can't help myself. I think America's Funniest Home Videos is one of the funniest things currently running on TV. The best clips are the ones with cats or dogs. Tonight I saw the funniest clip of a cat caught in a paper bag who had a serious freak out. I could'nt find that particular clip, but I found another one: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/afv-s19e04-cats-from/78105432 I would like a cat now..

Where all the props goes

This is where I work when I create weired, funny, oversized and ridiculous props and costumes.

The mailman visits - twice

I L.O.V.E getting packages in the mail. It's a little addictive. I've purchased a lot of supplies for my jewlery making lately, and it's really exciting opening the mailbox these days to see if some of my treasures has arrived. Yesterday when I came home from work, I found two packages sitting quietly waiting in my mailbox..

Photographic adventures

Big parts of the day today was spent tutoring myself in photography. The one advantage of having to work on Saturdays is that I usually have my Mondays off. A day all to myself! Yey!! I was really inspired reading this article on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5806845 on how to present your stuff in words and pictures. The thing is, once you get started editing texts, taking new pictures, cleaning up.. -you can't stop! It's really adictive. I have to stop now, or else I'll have a hard time falling asleep tonight, which is what happened last night, because I was geeking out infront of my pc until late..

I LOVE the mornings when our livingroom is filled with beautiful daylight, and I can fire up the SLR and take good daylight pictures of my jewlery. I guess that's why I haven't made myself a lightbox yet. I enjoy the whole setting with natural lighting too much, even though that's a rare luxury in winter wonder land at this time a year.

This day went too fast!

Here's another tips for a funny Sunday activity. Defrost the freezer!

Our freezer was filled up and Ane (my room mate) decided to clean up, defrost and see if we could get some more room. We didn't. When she had finished, the freezer was still very full, but at least now we know what is in it!

Sunday, sushi and chocolate

It's been a nice and relaxing sunday here. We went out for (in my opinion) Oslo's best sushi, and had easter chocolate eggs for treats. These are two things I highly recommend to anyone visiting Norway; our fantastic fish and our lovely chocholate! If sushi is your thing and you are in Oslo, go for Samurai Sushi, they make delicious sushi, and they are not overpriced. And if you are in Norway at this time a year, the lovely chocholate eggs with the creamy filling is fantastic! You get them in small egg containers with little spoons, you knock off the top of the egg and dig in!

Do you speak sign language?

This is currently one of my favorite things.. At this etsy shop you can get your name spelled out in sign language on wooden blocks http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=32062

I'm trying to think of what I am able to say with signs.. and the only thing I know how to say is the name of a type of bread spread that is made out of liver (leverpostei)!

Mr. Chin

Meet Mr Chin! A.k.a Anja's boyfriend..

Budget wall decor

Through work I often find this site usefull http://www.blockposters.com/ whenever I have to size up a photo or an illustration. Yesterday I blew up the shown photo for a prop, and realized that this makes excellent budget wall decor.. If you have more money to spend on these things, this is my favorite wall decal seller on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5958100 .

(I secretly hope that my boyfriend will read this and order me one!)

Welcome to the dollhouse

This is us. As a prop, of course. We made a dollhouse once, and made paperdolls with our heads on, as the dollhouse's residents. Check out Sigrids' (left) biceps!

Schemes

The winter has been coming and going here, like it couldn't decide if it was the appropriate time to settle down here or not. There is nothing more disappointing like snow melting just before Christmas, and this year I especially missed it, since this was my first year not celebrating with my family in my hometown.

Last week we had A LOT of snow. It just kept on snowing like there was no tomorrow. The funny part is that every year in Norway, at the first fall of snow, people here are caught off guard. They are never prepared for a few millimeters of snow, and incidently their cars are stuck on the roads because they haven't put on their snow tires etc. (.. and that'll be the headlines on the news channels here that day). Weired, since this is the land of snow, ice, frozen toes and wet mittens.

So last week, as a little tribute to the snow finally showing up, we made Frosty in a little break at work. Sadly he had vanished the very next day... Luckily we rembered to take his picture the day before. So if anyone's seen him, please return ;-) Anja

Workshop

Today has been a very efficient day! We are preparing for a fair down at the southern parts of Noway with this crafty lady: http://gripdag1.blogspot.com/, and we are also going to sell in a very funky store in another town in Norway soon. We are really excited about this, and we just have to get our act together and produce so that we have plenty of jewelry to sell.
