Indoor activities for cold feet

It's freezing outside. Getting colder by the hour towards new years eve. Right now it's -18 Celcius, and the forecast say's that it will reach -23 Celcius tomorrow. I have bought a gorgeous green dress from ModCloth, but I'm afraid I'll have to make do with thick tights and layers of wollen clothes for tomorrow night. -But look at my dress! I love it!

I have a weakness for movies made in the 80's and early 90's. I love watching the silly, and sometimes brave choices of dressing, hair do's and acts of weiredness..

This movie
is a good way to spend your evening, especially on a cold winter night. A young Natalie Portman does a very good role as the kid next door, with a crush on the main character. Well worth seing this one. I had to buy my copy in the end, and I watch it once a year.

" I might just grow to be five-ten. I'll be hot."

Introverted me

I had a nice Christmas. I went to my old home town, and celebrated the holidays with my family. I met old friends and went for walks in the cold, winter scenery.

I have been social non stop for over a week. I am beat. It's been a while since I've sat down, just listening to music, not speaking to anyone, making things, taking pictures. It's weired. I love my family and friends, but today I needed a little break. So I spent the day at home, alone. Lovely!

The light outside was beautiful, and our appartement looked light and peaceful. I took loads of pictures for our shop (which I am now editing, and getting ready to publish), and watched a few episodes of Sex and the City, which I discovered is a fun series (a few years late..)

Now, still alone in the flat, I am enjoying listening to one of my favorite bands MEW, and I am staring out of my window into the dark winter night, admiring all the snow that's covering everything and that are blocking the cars by the pavement, making it look like they are hiding under big, white coats.

Just enjoying the silence.

Summary

Well, it's been a while! Both Sigrid and I have been reluctant to pick up where we left on our blog. It's been a busy, and fun period of time since the last time any of us blogged.

We almost sold out completely at the "Designernes eget julemarked" ("Designers Christmas Market") here in Oslo. Unfortunately I was unable to contribute there (had to maintain my day job), but Sigrid was there pushing our jewelry out to the Norwegian public, whom until now have been spared a little.

Our Etsy shop has also been well visited in the Christmas rush, and we've almost made friends with the emploees at the local post offices.

I find that it's always hard in the beginning to sell something I've created. Not so much because I grow attached to the things, but more because I'm surprized when people want to buy my creations. We have both gotten better at this though. When things are a bit slow in our Etsy shop we tend to bring a box of jewelry to our day jobs, and boldly put them on a convenient spot where everybody can see it. It always creates a buzz! Or we make sure to always carry a little bit of the jewelry in our bags, so that when people ask "so what kind of jewelry do you make?" we can pull a "Funny you should ask.." and like a rabbit out of the magicians hat: bring out the bling from our bags!

All in all this has been a very good year for Everyday Glory, -and us, and we can't wait to take new pictures of our new jewelry designs as soon as daylight and time allowes it.

So, for now, a merry Christmas to all of you! And thanks for all the good support and cheering along the way!

Sigrid & Anja

New job, New home, New York

We (ny bf and I) got back from our trip to New York on Saturday. Great city with lots of good food and drinks!!

Today we have been packing down even more stuff in our appartement, since we're moving to our new and relievingly large flat on Saturday. I'm amazed how much stuff there is to pack. Seems like packing is all we've done for the last three months.

Tomorrow I start my new job. I haven't really had the time to think too much about that, since so many things are happening at the same time. I think Christmas this year will be nice, when things are a little more settled in.

Sigrid is travelleling a lot these days, through her work, so it feels like ages since we sat down with a glass of wine (or let's be honest; a glass of Port and some homebaked cookies! -Like a pair of old women!) and created things for our store. I miss that.

Let's hope Chistmas comes quickly! Have a nice week!

Break

Today was my last day at my old job. It was heartbreaking. I know I'll meet my colleagues again, but it'll never be quite the same. It feels like I am moving out from home and everything that is familiar. I'll soon start my new job, but before I do so I need a break. And what's better than going to this place?

Winds of change

I quit my job this week, the one I never thought I would be able to leave, in exchange for another job doing something very different somewhere else.

I read this article from The Guardian just now.
"The most popular day of the week to quit your job is Monday (followed by Thursday). Friday is the least popular weekday to resign on"

Yup. Monday it was. But I am happy with my decision.

Golden Saturday

There's something about the things that were filmed in the 60's that makes me think about that decade as golden. Maybe it's just the fact that the pictures that dates from that time in general has more yellow in them, and that it makes everything looks warmer. Maybe it's because the pace was a bit slower, and everything just looks a bit calmer, more friendly, distant and dreamy.. And the fact that I never got to experience that time, since I was born almost 20 years too late.

Someone at work showed me this video on Wednesday, and the tune has been stuck on my mind since that. It makes the days seem more golden.. Enjoy your weekend!

Etsy fontpage

Nothing makes a quiet Sunday morning seem even better than dicovering that we made the Etsy frontpage on Friday. I like the different creations from this selection too. The color and the theme was really working.

Cheese commercial

This one cracks me up EVERY time it is on TV:

R.I.P

A little hard to translate this one;
Rosa Ball means Pink ball in Norwegian, and today as I was searching for pink balls to use for props at work, this picture was the first one to pop up in Google images.. and I sort of gave up on ever finding any pink balls.. I'm at least 60 years too late!

Beads and more

I made these pretties a couple of weeks ago, and after snapping picures of them all separately, I took a family photo of them all. Look good together, don't they?? For sale at Everyday Glory.
Ah.. the colours and the shapes... sigh!

Wish list part 1

1. Ikea's PS Maskros

2. Veggdekal med telefonstålper og fugler fra Decorette

___________________________________________

I never concidered myself to be the kind of person that talks about interiour design with a stuttering voice , jumping up and down excitedly whenever seeing some furnitural treasure somewhere, but now whenever thinking about moving to our new appartement and making it ours.. I can't help myself!

Luckily the big 3-0 for me is in the end of November, and we're moving in the first week of november, so my wishlist if now offiicially "out there"!

1. The fabulous Ikea lamp made in paper is garanteed to be a success over our dining table.

2. The amazing wall decal from Decorette is a must-have for me

Nytt hi

And all of a sudden we found an appartemet that we loved, we put in an offer -and got it!

I am so thrilled to be moving into a place that's over twice as big as our old appartement, I'll even get my own gluing room.

We'll live in boxes for some time now, so everything is a mess.

The house on the picture is the home of the royal family in Norway, by the way, so I'm not moving in there... yet! But the new appartment feels like a spacious castle you can get lost in.. yippii!

____________________________________________

Yesterday me and some friends went to see Harry Potter and the half blood prince at the cinema. In my opinion not the best of the Harry Potter movies.

However; I always start looking forward to winter when I watch any of the Potter-movies. The beautiful white winter landscapes, and people dressed in thick scarves and sweaters does it for me, and makes me long for snow and the cold months..

This week we appeared on a Etsy frontpage where the theme was Harry Potter. Our necklace "The Golden Snitch" was featured along with a very cool scarf made by ParkaProject, which looks really good, not to mention warm! Nothing like having something you cannot just go to a chain store and buy! -And there's nothing like getting packages in the mail eigther!

Mmmmaling..

We are spending our last week of vacation doing up a little in our appartement, so that when we sell and move (preferably sometimes before Christmas), the 'to-do-list' will be some what shorter and the amount of panic will be at a minimum..

Sommerens soundtrack

I'm choosing this as my summer soundtrack. Beth Ditto is fantastic, and I love this song!

Nytt hjem

_______

I'm trying for a period to write the blog in norwegian with an english translation. The hope is that it'll make me blog more. It have been a very busy and stressful spring whit a lot of work, exams and decission making, but now it's summer, and I think it's going to be a great one. Tonight I loaded my photos over to my computer and it has been 727 pictures since the last time I did that. So in order to make the blog come up to date whit my life I have to start a few weeks back. These are the pictures from 17th of may. It's the national holiday in Norway. Me and Ane celebrated the day wearing our "bunad" (national costume). On our way to dinner with Anja, Dylan and some friends we had a jumping contest in the middle of the street.

Rush hour

Okay, so neither Sigrid or I have been too active on the blog front lately. Too much to do, I guess. Spring is always very busy at work, and Sigrid have also accomplished to finish some rather heavy classes besides her job, and is now celebrating her achivements, -touring around in Europe.

Our Etsy shop has also suffered a bit under these stressful times, and sales have been a little slow. A lady on one of the Etsy forms said it well the other day; "to be succsessful on Etsy means you have to treat your shop as a business, not as a hobby".

But yeeey! We've been on the frontpage at least three times since last, and that's always very fun! And there's a LOT of beautiful jewelry in boxes just waiting to be photographed and put out for sale.. so drop in every now and then!

Others than that, (other than gluing) I am currently working with the scenography for our studio. Here's a miniature of the old one. Me and one of my co-workers made this one about two months ago, when it was a LOT quieter at work. It's 1:50. Hehe.

Hormones on the wall..

I think it's hillarious that my parents haven't removed some of the wall art in their bedroom, which used to be my room from the age of 11-15. Yup. There was hormones. I have always been drawing a lot, and I remember drawing this one. My mom was having a Tupperware party or something in the livingroom, so it was off limits, and I was spending a few hours in my room. I had seen the Bill and Ted movies and Point Break a few times, so I chose to draw Keanu Reeves on the door. I blame it on my 14 years of age..

Easter finds

I spent a couple of days at my parents house during easter. The attic there is amazing. It's full of treasures (-and crap) from the past. These have been dusted off and are currently living with me

A set of fancy dessert bowls from the 70's. My parents got them as a wedding present.

A large Norwegian designed porcelain mug, not sure when it dates from, but it used to belong to my grandmother. The small one, also Norwegian designed porcelain, just came with the house.

A happy mix of old plates, will do nicely as props for photographing jewlery.. maybe.

This one I did'nt bring home with me, it just looks interesting. It belonged to my older brother, and has been dismantled..

Once again my cubbards are full for sure, and I'm happy!

Remains of Frosty

When I got back from my Easter break, most of the snow had melted around the building where I work.Look what I discovered! Just where we left him..

Easter

I spent most of last night coughing, so now I've given up trying to sleep any longer. Besides, the longer mornings I get, and the more quality time I get to spend alone with my coffee pot, the better the day will be! It's like in The Sims, when your Sim is doing something she/he/it enjoys, you see a giant green pluss sign over their heads. We'll.. Right now that's me.
Yesterday I went downtown with Sigrid to do some shopping before everything closes for the Easter. It was raining and a little bit chilly, so we bought coffee and set off. We went to Panduro (a large, wonderful, and scaringly expensive crafting supplies store) where I no longer am surprised when I hear the large sums the cashier wants me to hand over. It's almost like a ransom. Yes. I do buy a lot whenever I am there (which is not too often anymore). Amongst other things I bought this bird:

It looks good, ey? It's in metal, so I guess it's a Metal finch. I had to get it.

Our livingroom window sill, now with a little bit of Easter flare. I bought the nest earlier at Panduro, thinking I would use it as a prop when taking pictures of our jewelry for Everyday Glory, but it turened out a little tacky I think. Would'nt want to put off customers by having them think that the jewelry has bird fleas on them.. I might be paranoid here.

Some yummy Anthon Berg chocolate eggs are now nesting here. Too bad they won't hatch. If I found a way for chocolate to expand I would be rich.

Snapshots of Oslo

On Sunday I went for a walk. I brought my camera.

On our neighbour block there's a second hand shop with all kinds of things. It's a small shop, but every corner of it is filled with stuff. It has the oddest opening hours.. How about a cow skin backpack??

A mind fish.
Now that has to be reversed psycology..

Luckily there's a lot of concerts and shows in this city. Looks like they all came and went..

Number nine.. Or 9th of April if you like.
